Review Summaries
"Shrek is a lonely ogre living in a swamp by himself. When many fairy tale creatures are sent there, he must visit the evil Lord Farquaard to get ownership of his swamp back. To get it back, Shrek must go to an ancient castle guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. There, he must save the princess that is locked in the highest room of the tallest tower. Accompanied by an annoying talking donkey, he saves her only to discover she isn't want he thought she would be. This comedy also features many spoofs of popular films like The Matrix, and Return of the Jedi, while also poking fun at Disney."
Estefan Ellison, Resident Scholar

"Shrek has little fairy tale creatures come to his land and take over. Shrek finds the person who sent these fairy tale creatures. Lord Forquad was the person respondable of placing these creatures on his land. Forquad is looking for a Princess so he can become a Prince. Shrek asks for his land back so Forquad gives Shrek a quest to find the Princess and offers Shrek his land back. Shrek finds the Princess and brings her back. Princess (Fiona) starts to fall in love with Shrek. Shrek over hears Fiona talking about how she could never love an ugly beast. Shrek thinks she is talking about him but at night she turns into an oger. Shrek and Donkey go back to their land and Donkey tells Shrek Fiona is in love with him. Forquad and Fiona are suppose to get married by sunset so Shrek and Donkey go to the wedding and stop it. Shrek tells Fiona he is in love with her. Fiona has to tell Shrek by day she is one way and by night she is another. First true loves kiss determines who she is."

"A misanthropic and shy ogre named Shrek finds his swamp home overrun by a crowd of fairy tale creatures who have been evicted from their homes by Lord Farquaad in his attempt to create "the Perfect Kingdom." When Shrek protests, Farquaad tricks him into going on a mission to rescue the Princess Fiona from her mountain castle prison which is guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. A talkative Donkey accompanies Shrek on the mission, which gets complicated when Shrek falls in love with Fiona. But almost no one is quite what he or she seems. Myers voices the simple but goodhearted title character with a Scottish accent, Lithgow a fine villain, and Diaz a creditable heroine. Eddie Murphy steals the show as the Donkey. The movie is subtly ribald, which grownups can appreciate, without making it unsuitable for kids."

"An ogre, happy in his solitary swamp life, finds that all the Fairy Tale creatures in the land have been relocated to his swamp by the local nobleman who wants to create a "Perfect Kingom." To get them out, he goes on a quest to rescue a princess from a dragon for the nobleman. The Princess turns out to not be quite what she seems. This is the perfect "anti-disney" movie in that it turns the "Disney animated fairy tale" conventions on their heads as well as savagely satirizing the fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters that Disney has co-opted over the years. Very well-done computer animation and strong performances really make the film work."
