Review Summaries
"Muggles, a member of a humanoid race called the Minnipins, works hard (at baking and caring for a museum) and gets along well with others, but she doesn't fit in with the rest of her town; she's too artistic (she paints her door the wrong color, makes cookies in the shape of people, etc.), too different. The villagers use an upcoming 'best village' competition to exile Muggles and some other misfits: the village treasurer, a history buff, a poet, and an artist. Together, the five go off to form a new society. But when they discover an impending invasion by a dreaded enemy, it's up to the exiles to save all the Minnipins - and in the process, the village elders learn the value of people who are different. This book is fun, with a light and meaningful message that's very progressive, given that it was first published in 1959. The Gammage Cup is a Newbery Honor Book. "
