Review Summary
The "Day of Pain" comes to the planet Worthing and to Lared's community which has never before felt and remembered pain. Jason Worthing and his daughter Justice arrive and help Lared understand how pain and sorrow bring pleasure and joy. They do this by letting Lared "see" Jason's life and his descendants as they learn what it is to be a human being and to live and love.

The life of a man, Jason Worthing, who is from a society where Somec, a drug that allows someone to go to sleep and not age, has taken over society by making the rich and powerful live forever. One man, Abner Doon, is intent to destroy the world controlled by Somec, and so colonizes other planets, one of these planets is to be led by Jason Worthing. But Jason faces many challenged along the way, when the memories of every colonist are destroyed and many of them killed before reaching the planet. Now, he must create a world where he can eventually do what Abner Doon meant him to do...make the planet into the ultimate breeding experiment, and pass his own unique mind powers to his children, until the entire planet descends from Worthing, and has power beyond belief.
