Before its opening to the general public, he shows the park off to a select group of guests, including dinosaur expert Alan Grant (Neill), paleobotanist Ellie Sattler (Dern), mathematician Ian Malcolm (Goldblum), and Hammond's two grandchildren. But park employee Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) disables the security system in order to steal some dinosaur embryos he can sell to the highest bidder, and this allows the dinosaurs to escape from their enclosures, with disastrous results. Steven Spielberg directed this quintessential summer blockbuster, released in 1993, with a screenplay coauthored by Michael Crichton and David Koepp based on Crichton's bestselling novel. Decent dialogue and exciting special effects (along with lovely location shooting in Oahu, Kauai, Costa Rica, and the Mojave Desert) make up for the so-so acting and sizable plot holes."
