A trip to the monolith.

Slow sequel to 2001. Followup mission goes looking for HAL and the monolith. After they get there, they put HAL together again, have a tender monolith moment, and go home. Political subtext also inserted telling us to be good with communist russia.

The Russian Space vessel "Leonov", ferrying three American passengers in the diplomatic turmoil of a second Cold War, trace the path of the USS Discovery to is destination around Jupiter. Heywood Floyd, who sent off the previous mission, obsesses over the loss of the Discover 9 years earlier. The Leonov and her crew must face against the mystery of the Discovery disaster, the ominous black Monolith around Jupiter, and the impending war between America and Russia back home.
