Review Summaries
"Khorii, a unicorn-like Linyaari, is traveling with her legendary parents, Acorna and Aari, to visit her mother's adoptive human family. Then they come upon a derelict ship. When the captain, Khorii's Uncle Joh, and the two intelligent cats, RK and Khiindi, go aboard to investigate, they discover all the occupants are dead. Then RK and Khiindi collapse. By the time she reaches them, the cats are almost dead and Uncle Joh is about to collapse as well. The magical healing powers of her horn barely save them. Once they are on their way again, a distress call from the Federation Health Authorities comes in. They beg Acorna and Aari to come and help heal an outbreak from an unknown plague. Even though Linyaari do not get sick, they refuse to take Khorri near the possible danger, and she is left at the school on Maganos Moonbase, with her cat, Khiindi, and her android companion, Elviiz. Right away one of the students takes a dislike to her, and she struggles to fit in with the mostly human population, who find her strange. Then the school bully almost kills Khiindi, and when Elviiz steps in and ends up breaking his arm, the majority of the students become afraid of her and her companions. Khorii desperately wants to leave and help her parents, but the plague is worsening and a quarantine is put into effect, just before communication starts breaking down. Even the legendary healing powers of the Linyaari people may not be enough to stop the plague, and billions will die if no cure is found."
