Review Summary
In this sequel to 'A Princess of Mars', Captain John Carter is again transported to Mars, where he is reunited with Tars Tarkas, of the warlike Green Martians, on a pilgrimage to the sacred river Iss. In the Mountains of Otz they encounter Thuvia, a slave of the Holy Therns, cruel guardians of the Valley Dor.

Under cover of a pirate attack Carter escapes alone in an air ship, but is captured by pirates and taken to an underground world and the Temple of Issus. Carter leads a slaves revolt against Issus and escapes again, resuming his search for his missing companions Tars Tarkas and Thuvia.
