Review Summary
Young David MacLean (Hunt) wants to be an astronomer when he grows up. One night he sees a celestial light descend into the field behind his house, and shortly thereafter people he has known all his life -- his mother and father, the girl next door, the chief of police -- start to act strangely. He figures out that the sand out in that field swallows up humans and then returns them somehow altered. David must depend on a pretty doctor, Pat Blake (Carter) and physicist Stuart Kelston (Franz) to help him solve the mystery, which involves martian invaders -- including slaves in zip-up velour jumpsuits -- seeking to disarm America's nuclear threat. This is a very early and campy sci-fi classic (1953).
