Review Summaries
"A pretty young princess named Snow White is the maid of her evil stepmother, the Queen. Wearing ragged clothes she is forced to toil in drudgery day after day, but never complains about her job. She is a friend to the creatures of nature. She is visited by handsome Prince Charming and the two are attracted to one another. The Queen asks the enchanted mirror, Who is the most beautiful woman in the land? and for years has gotten the answer that it was she. Now, the Queen is told it is Snow White who is loveliest. Seeing the attention she is attracting from the Prince and the hearing the bad news from the mirror, the Queen orders her huntsman to execute Snow White in a remote part of the forest. He is appalled but dares not disobey the wicked woman. The next day in the woods, he is set to strike her down with his knife but relents. He confesses the entire plot and implores her to run for her life into the woods and never return to the castle.
Snow White in the dark lets her imagination frighten her with every snap of a twig, hoot of an owl, or chirp of a bug. She passes out while being watched by dozens of eyes. In the morning it is the animals of the woods who were looking at her. She is led to an untidy little house in a clearing. She goes into the empty home and begins to clean it with help from the critters singing “Whistle While You Work”, noticing that everything is in groups of seven; seven chairs, seven plates, seven beds, etc. Exhausted she dozes off in a bed upstairs. The dwarfs come home singing another familiar Disney song when they see the home has been cleaned but act as if has been burglarized. They walk upstairs to find the sleeping girl in a bed. She wakes and introduces herself to them. She is afraid they will force her to return to the Queen. They are afraid of the Queen's anger.
The Queen has learned of the deception and that Snow White lives. She goes to the dungeon and conjures up a potion to disguise herself. She drinks the liquid and is transformed into an stooped old hag. Next she creates a poisoned apple to make the Princess sleep forever. Back at the little house the dwarfs dance and sing, smitten by her beauty and charms. The poison apple is now ready for use and the Queen boards a canoe to seek out Snow White. In the morning the dwarfs depart for the mines, cautioning her to avoid strangers. Sure enough the hag appears and Snow White is too nice to say no to her. After much haggling Snow White is tempted to bite into the apple that she is told will grant her a wish. She falls into a fatal slumber as the dwarfs reach her. They trail the evil Queen up to a mountaintop as a storm rages. The Queen falls to her death. The dwarfs construct a clear coffin for the fallen girl and a year passes by. Prince Charming stops when he finds the Princess, plants a restorative kiss on her lips, and they ride off together."
