Review Summaries
"Based on the Jules Verne novel, 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA is a film directed by Richard Fleischer in 1954. The film won two Academy awards in the Best Set-Decoration and in the Best Special Effects category.
No one dares to navigate in the Pacific ocean anymore. It is said that a giant sea monster destroys the ships heading to Asia. The U.S. government asks the French professor Pierre Arronax to accompany a military expedition whose mission is to kill the monster, if it exists.
Three months later, the ship is hit by a huge submarine and sinks. Arronax, his servant and a whale hunter (Douglas) manage to reach the submarine and are arrested there by the commander, Captain Nemo. Little by little, they will understand that Nemo is an idealist who destroys any warships on his path to stop the wars. The prisoners will discover with astonishment the life aboard the Nautilus which is propelled by a motor invented by Nemo and they will stay for days underwater at breathtakingly deep depths. Nemo is not persuaded that the world is ready yet for his inventions that could bring more wars instead of bringing peace."
