Review Summaries
"When Lawrence Talbot's tomb is unsealed a pair of would-be tomb raiders discover the dead Talbot is not so dead. Moonlight falling upon him brings about his reanimation as the Wolf Man (Chaney), and he kills one of the raiders. He runs amok before collapsing as a human again in Cardiff. He awakens in a hospital and tells Dr. Mannering (Knowles) and the police detective he is afflicted with the curse of the wolf, but they are skeptical. At the full moon that night he transforms again, menacing the populace and killing a hapless policeman. Talbot must find a cure for his torment and seeks the old gypsy woman from his past, Maleva (Ouspenskaya). He locates her and she becomes his surrogate mother as they journey to Vasaria to find Dr. Frankenstein, as only he can put an end to his suffering.
In Vasaria they are dismayed to find Dr. Frankenstein perished in a laboratory fire along with his abomination. That night the Wolf Man kills again and the town is in full riot against the new monster in their midst. He is pursued into the remains of the castle. He falls into a vast subterranean chamber frozen beneath the former laboratory site. When he awakens as Talbot, he stumbles upon the body of the monster (Lugosi) and sets it free from its icy tomb.
Talbot is frantically looking for Dr. Frankenstein's diary among the ruins. He makes the acquaintance of Elsa Frankenstein (Massey), as he poses as a potential buyer for her late fathers estate. Talbot and Elsa are invited by the village's Mayor (Atwill) to attend the town's festival. The relentless Dr. Mannering, following Talbot to Vasaria, is seeking the capture of Talbot. Soon the festival goers are being terrorized by the monster.
Talbot and the creature flee the scene. The doctor and Elsa team up to help end the curse of both creatures with Elsa allowing the diary to be used by Mannering. To solve the problem, Mannering rewires the lab equipment to reverse the electrical pulses to remove the life energy from the monster and the Wolf Man. The doctor inexplicably changes the energy flow giving the monsters full strength. Both creatures are now enraged at the turn of events and take to one another's throat while the doc and Elsa run for their lives. A disgruntled villager blows up the dam holding the village reservoir overlooking the castle. A flood washes away the gruesome combatants. The End."
