| Review Summary |
There is a small village of people in the middle of nowhere surrounded by forest. These people seem normal enough, but of late they have been haunted and troubled by monsters dressed in red cloaks, with huge claws and spikes on their backs - who live in the forest. Up until now they have had an understanding with the creatures - the villagers don't cross into the creatures' woods and the creatures don't cross into the village. And anything red must be removed immediately, as "the bad colour" attracts the creatures.
One of the young men of the village, Noah Perry (Brody), is mentally retarded, and his best friend Lucius Hunt(Phoenix) wants to cross through the woods to one of the surrounding towns, to get medicine for him. Lucius is in love with a young blind girl, Ivy Walker (Hunt), who loves him back. But Noah, not really understanding the difference between friendship and love, stabs Lucius for getting engaged to Ivy. Lucius lies on the brink of death in his bed, and Ivy makes the journey through the woods to get the medicine to
save him. She must go alone, because there is only a slim chance that the creatures will even let her through because she has has good intentions.

Along the way she discovers secrets she never knew about.
