Review Summary
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third movie done based on the series of books written by J.K. Rowling. This again recounts the story of Harry Potter and how he is learning all about being a wizard and living in the magical world. This time, though, he finds out that he has a godfather (Sirius Black) who has been accused of killing his parents and has spent the last 12 years in Azkaban prison but has recently escaped to kill. Everyone thinks he is after Harry, but it soon comes to light that he was framed by Peter Pettigrew, who everyone thought he had killed. It seems that Peter told Voldemort where the Potters were and framed Sirius.
This film had a lot of action, and gave us more insight into the character of Harry as well as of his two friends, Hermione and Ron.

Harry loses his temper at his grating Aunt Marge and inflates her until she floats into the sky. Amazingly, he is not punished for using magic in muggle country, but returns to Hogwarts for his third year of wizard school to learn that Sirius Black (Oldman), an inmate at Azkaban Prison for murder connected with the death of Harry's parents, has escaped and is coming for him. The Dementors surround the school to try to catch Sirius, and throw a decided pall on the place. A new faculty member, Professor Lupin (Thewlis), takes on the Defense Against the Dark Arts class but is often out sick for unknown reasons, while Hagrid becomes an instructor in magical animals and introduces the kids to a Hippogriff, which is defensively frightened into injuring Lucius Malfoy and sentenced to death. The third Potter movie is darker but takes its time to build to an intensely frightening climax with a battle between a werewolf and a magical black dog, and a gathering of the Dementors.

Harry Potter continues to stuggle with growing up in life as an orphaned wizard. This is his third year at Hogwart's School and he has to deal with an escaped prisoner (Sirius Black) of Azkaban who everyone keeps telling him is out to kill him. Harry and Hermione are the ones uncovering the clues this time with Ron occasionally tagging along. Harry also has to deal with more unknown forces called Dementors who also want to steal his happy thoughts. The movie takes a long time to get to anything really exciting then hits you near the end.
