Review Summary
The heroine of the movie is Ella of Frell. As an infant, Ella was given the gift of obedience by a foolish fairy named Lucinda. At first, the gift didn't seem to be too bad. But, as she grew older, the commands issued to her became too horrible to bear. When Ella was forced to say mean things to her best friend, she knew it was time to speak up. Ella goes on a life-changing adventure to find Lucinda not knowing what would lie ahead. On her way, she meets the charming Prince Charmont, who she loathes due to his evil uncle's politics. But she didn't know she would fall in love with him. Ella also meets ogres, elves, and giants along the way.

When Ella of Frell (Anne Hathaway) was a baby, she was given a terrible curse that was meant to be gift, the gift of obedience. If someone told her, "Ella, go to your room!" She would go against her will. Even something so harsh as, "Ella, go tell your best friend that you hate her, cannot be friends with her any longer, and never wish to see her again."
When Ella becomes of age, she decides it's about time she goes and asks the rotton fairy Lucinda to take back her horrible gift. But it's not as easy as that. She must track her down, looking from all sorts of odd places like giant weddings and Elfen forests. On the way she gains some friends, one of them being the Prince (Hugh Dancy), whom she ends up falling for, against her will, but without a command. But she realizes that she can never be with her true love and still have this horrible curse, especially with his evil uncle around (Cary Elwes)-- the fairy must take back the gift! The curse must be lifted! But, is Lucinda the only one who can lift it? Maybe true love is strong enough to break through any barrier.
