Review Summaries
"An airplane carrying Conway (Colman), a British diplomat, and several civilians crash lands in the deep snows of the Himalayas on the brink of World War II. Their group is rescued by the people of Shangri-la – a mysterious valley that is protected by the mountains and hidden from the outside world. This place is a balm for Conway, but he is soon asked to lead the people there, much to the chagrin of his brother, George (Howard), who is determined to leave. Robert Conway is eventually convinced to leave, but Shangri-la and the beautiful Sondra (Wyatt) haunt his every moment. He decides to return, which may be at his peril.
Based on the James Hilton novel. Directed by Frank Capra. Filmed partially in California's Ojai Valley. Numerous Oscar nominations.
