Review Summaries
"Humanity is the last of four races to inhabit the world. When the peaceful Eldarin disappeared all that was left behind was the Pearl, a mysterious magical artifact. The four Duchies plunged into war for possession of the Pearl. For several years the war has raged with treachery and shifting alliances preventing a winner. Duke Sirano uses the darkest of sorcery to unlock the secret of the Pearl and unwittingly unleashes the Daroth, a race thought banished from the world. The Daroth are large, strong, telepathic and virtually immortal, able to survive blows that would easily kill a man. Attempts to make peaceful contact are rebuffed since they see humanity as inferior and fit only for food. The only hope of stopping the Daroth rest on the shoulders of a unlikely group of heroes. Tarantio, with the assistance of his alter-ego Dace, is the deadliest swordsman in the world and is able to defeat a Daroth in hand-to-hand combat. The musician Duvodas is the only human with the knowledge of Eldarin magic, but this power is for healing and not destruction. The warrior-woman Karis, a mercenary leader and the best strategist they have to face this threat. She must develope tactics, new weapons and defenses for the city of Corduin. This is the last chance to stop the Daroth or the human race will face extinction. "
