Review Summary
Sophy Lee is stuck in a rut. She's been teaching at the charity school in London since her parents died, and is resigned to spend the rest of her life teaching endless classes of children who don't really want to learn.
Then a long-lost uncle dies and leaves her a letter, an old manuscript, an ivory carving, a ring, and an odd stone. The stone, his letter says, is a dragon's egg, which must be returned to the place in Asia from which it came. Desperate for something new and different to do, Sophy agrees to do it. With her on this odd reverse quest are a stowaway student from the school where she used to teach, a law clerk who would rather be anywhere else, the detective her uncle had hired to find her, a magical creature called a Ky-Lin, and a cat who wants three kisses so that he can turn back into a handsome prince (or so he says). Sophy wanted adventure- but she's going to find more than even she bargained for...
