The Tigron of Immanion, Pellaz Har Aralis, narrates his history, from when he was a farmer boy abducted by the Wraeththu (a new race of hermaphrodites evolved from humanity) and Cal, who has becomes his lover and has him accepted into the Sarock Wraeththu Tribe. Thiede, a most powerful Wraeththu ,incepts him and sets his destiny. The two lovers, Cal and Pell, visits various Wraeththu tribes, and save Cobweb, injures consort of the Warlord Terzian, who proposes, unsuccesfully to Cal. Pellaz and Calanthe leave Terzian's home, and Cal declare to Pell his undying love.
But they shall soon be separated, and Pell shall be killed in an ambush to be reborn in a new body. This is Thiede's doing, who want to make of Pell a pure and innocent ruler for the Wraeththu. On the way from Thiede's abode in the north to the majestic Wraeththu city Immanion, Pell stoppped at Ferelithia, when he manages to seduce a young bar singer in a Wraeththu Rock Band, Caeru Meveny called Rue. Pell settles in the new role as ruler, and shortly before his coronation learns that Cal has been driven to insanity by his former body's death, to the point to killing Orien, the shaman of the Sarocks, who Cal accused of conspiring whit Thiede in separating he and Pellaz. Another shock awaits the now Tigron Pellaz: he shall be forced by Thiede to bond in blood with Caeru Meveny, who arrived in Immanion with their child. The book concludes whit Pellaz Har Aralis resigned to his ruler's duty, but he'll never forget Cal.
