"Glynn and Ember Flanders are vacationing on a small Greek island, knowing that it could very well be the last holiday Ember ever takes. Ember is dying from a brain tumor that has left her partially blind. The last night of their holiday Glynn takes a moonlit swim. She is a strong athletic girl, but she gets into trouble, and is pulled under the water. Fortunately she is saved from drowning by an enigmatic young windwalker named Solen. Glynn realises that somehow she has been transported to another world. "Glynn and Ember are struggling with the news that Ember, a red-haired, highly skilled musician, has been diagnosed with a fatal brain tumour which is unoperable.
