| Review Summary |
Harry Potter is a young boy born into a magical world. Both of his parents died trying to protect him from Voldemort. Harry's parents took the beating from Voldemort, while leaving Harry only a scar on his forehead. This scar, as portrayed in the fifth book, is no ordinary scar, it opens a "path" between Harry and Voldemort,. At the end of the book, Harry learns that he is destined to kill Voldemort, according to an old prophecy regarding their fates. Harry finds courage in this and along with the help of Dumbledore, an old and powerful wizard, prepares for the Second War of good verses evil.

In Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts he learns the meaning of true friendship and loyalty. He overcomes the hard lessons of a mean arrogant teacher as well. He also gets the chance to look into his fathers past and he's not too proud of the scene that unfolds in front of him.

This is the fifth book to the Harry Potter series. This is the one where Harry finds out a lot of what went on when he was a baby. He discovers a lot about himself that he didnt know and also a lot about Voldemort. He is stretched to his limit in this book and loses someone very close to him. It starts with all his friends seemingly ignoring him, even Professor Dumbledore. He feels very alone in this book, though he does encounter girls for the first time. Voldemort is back and everybody must pull together which is not as easy as it would seem.

Harry Potter (the main character) has to deal with a lot in his 5th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He has to deal with his long time enemy (Lord Voldemort) coming back to full power, his crush that just might go further, and everything else that normally happens at Hogwarts. He also has to deal with the horrible death of his best friend, thinking he could have stopped it. His life really is starting to stink at Hogwarts and he still has to go back to his horrible Aunt and Uncle's house where they want him out more than ever because Lord Voldemort is after him and wants him dead.

Harry Potter is now 15 and in his fifth year at Hogwarts. At the end of the year he and his classmates face the O.W.L. exams, but before that they suffer the dismissal and disappearance of Dumbledore, who is replaced by a brutal and vindictive hag named Dolores Umbridge, the latest Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and "Hogwarts High Inquisitor" -- also on a mission to evaluate the Hogwarts teaching staff for the Ministry of Magic. Because Umbridge seems determined to undercut Harry, if not dismiss him altogether (she sentences him to a lifetime ban against playing Quidditch, for one thing), and not to teach anything of substance in class, Harry and a bunch of his classmates begin meeting in secret to practice Defense Against the Dark Arts tactics. The story climaxes in the Department of Mysteries, deep in the Ministry of Magic in London, and along the way several professors end up in the hospital and one of Harry's closest allies is killed. This 870-page monster starts rather slowly and drearily -- the first 200 pages or so could have been cut with little damage to the plot -- but eventually rises to the excitement and quality of its predecessors.

The fifth book of the Harry Potter series is predictably darker than its predessecors as Harry finds himself not only imperiled by Lord Voldemort, but by the entire Ministry of Magic as well.
Meanwhile, Harry -once at Hogwarts- has other concerns on his mind. All fifth years are required to take O.W.L's, a nasty end-of-year exam, and the rigid new regime at Hogwarts lead by the New Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and 'Hogwarts High Inquisitor', Professor Dolores Umbridge, can only make matters worse. Hagrid arrives at the school late and disturbingly injured, only to reveal another great secret that must be kept hidden. And night after night, Harry is visited by relentless dreams about a door to the Department of Mysteries, a door guarding a great prophecy that Harry, and the Order of the Phoenix.
