Review Summaries
"Neo (Keanu Reeves) is still trying to come to terms with being The One, the person who will save Zion and bring an end to the war with the machines. Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) firmly believes in the Prophecy and does his utmost to convince the Council and everyone else in Zion that Neo can accomplish this task, but Neo is not so sure that he can. The Oracle keeps telling him what he will do and what will happen and Neo does not like to think that his life has already been decided - what happened to his own say in his life? Still, Neo knows that he has other people to think about so he tries to follow the Oracle's advice. She tells him that he must rescue the Keymaker so that the Keymaker can get Neo into The Source, where he will meet with the Architect, the person who created the Matrix. The only problem is, the Keymaker is held prisoner by a powerful program who does not want to let him go... This movie wasn't as good as The Matrix, but it was still a very good movie. It had me on the edge of my seat almost the whole time and left me hanging at the end so I was frantic to see the third film. The reason why it was not as good was simply that the surprise factor was gone - I knew that the special effects would be amazing and the fighting sequences would be brilliant and, funnily enough, they were, but I knew that they would be before I saw the movie so, no matter how spectacular they were, I felt that I had seen them in the first film. Still, the Wachowski brothers did a fabulous job with the 'Burly Brawl' scene and I loved meeting other programs in the Matrix, they were just like really wealthy, snooty people that you really wanted to take down a peg or two. Of course, the freeway chase sequence was spectacular and, personally, I thought that it was worth watching the whole film just to see that, but that is just my opinion. If you enjoy science fiction or action/thrillers, then I am confident that you will enjoy this film also."

"This is the second movie of the Matrix Trilogy. Neo has now developed his abilities fully and the relationship between him and Trinity is much stronger. He will find himself fighting against Agent Smith once again, who wants his life more than ever and has found a way to replicate himself. "
Trinity, Resident Scholar

"This is the second film in the Matrix Trilogy, written and directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski. We left Neo shortly after he destroyed the agents in film one. Now we see him developing super human powers. Agent Smith has returned, this time weilding some very creepy powers. Last time we learned that the world as we now it is a computer generated machine world, built to keep the human race under control. Now Smith wants Neo dead more than ever and Neo is learning almost exactly what he has do to stop the Machines. Breathtaking - edge of your seat action the whole way through. "
Katie, Resident Scholar

"Most of humanity is locked in the Matrix, being used by machines as a power source, and unknowingly living in a virtual world. Neo is a revered spiritual figure; the citizens of the underground city Zion believe he is "the one" -- the human with the power to control the Matrix, and who will save them from the machines which enslave humanity. As the machines close in to kill Zion, Neo goes on a journey to discover the secret to shutting down the Matrix forever, and in the process finds that he must understand and accept himself in order to understand the Matrix. While Neo hunts, a Matrix program with newly acquired power and freedom hunts him . . . "

"A group of people must band together to save the last human-controlled city, Zion, from a group of killer machines/robots. In order to do this they must enter the Matrix, a computer-controlled V.R. worldm, where they battle many different kind of enemies in an explosive fight for freedom."
Jack Bauer, Resident Scholar

"In the second, early 2003 installment of the Wachowski brothers' trilogy, a quarter million killer machines are burrowing down from the surface of the earth to the human refuge of Zion. Rebel leaders estimate they have 72 hours before the probes reach them and destroy Zion and all its people. Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity fight and out-think various enemies and roadblocks in an effort to get to the source of the Matrix. Although an early dance rave scene in Zion drags, Neo's battle with 100 Agent Smiths is one high, and a 17-minute battle on a freeway (a 2-mile loop that took $2.4 million to build, for a sequence that took 45 days and more than $40 million alone to shoot) is another that makes for exhilarating and exhausting viewing. Except for Weaving as Agent Smith, the characters all seem a bit overshadowed and bewildered by the plot and CGI effects. But the rush is still worth it."
David Loftus, Resident Scholar

"Neo, Trinity, Morpheus and co. are back, still kicking major butt fighting the sentients in the matrix and trying to save the world. In the matrix it's perfectly clear Neo is the One, as he can fly and takes on hundreds of sentients at a time without harldy breaking a sweat. But in the real world there are other humans who don't buy into Morpheus' vision and would rather physically defend themsleves instead of using the matrix. Neo keeps having dreams where he sees Trinity die, and this realy bugs him, so he visits the oracle again, where he learns she's a program and that not all programs are hostile to humans. Then they have to go rescue the Keymaker, which they do with lots of explosions, car chases, bullets and kung fu. Then when Neo's dream turns into prophesy, he has to decide whether he's going to save the world, or save Trinity. An awesome movie, though they could've done without the bizarre slow motion sex/mosh pit scene."

"Following the events of The Matrix, Neo finds himself leading Morpheus and Trinity in a battle to stop an invasion of Zion and a personal struggle to find out why he has become The One."
Daniel Butler, Resident Scholar

"Neo goes back into the Matrix to perform a lot of stunts. But first, there's an hour of yap-yapping in the underground city. The stunts, such as fighting a hundred agents or bouncing around on moving cars, are very good. Get it on DVD and watch the second half over and over."
