| Review Summary |
Set in a mythical Arabian Nights country, the story follows prince Achmed and a flying horse he has acquired. Achmed falls in love with the enchanted Princess of Cloud City, despite the fact that she needs to escape from her enchanted castle to be with him. Achmed's luck changes when she is kidnapped by an evil magician. He must then chase the evil mage and rescue his princess. He is helped by the Witch of the Fiery Mountains who is an ages long enemy of the magician. Having defeated the magician Achmed is able to return to his city to marry the Princess.
Considered by many to be the first full-length animated film, the story of Lotte Reiniger's mesmerizing work is taken from THE ARABIAN NIGHTS. Produced in Germany this color-tinted film utilizes laboriously cut out silhouettes to tell its story.
