Review Summaries
"Based on the H. Rider Haggard novel, SHE is a movie directed by Irving Pichel and Lansing C. Holden in 1935. The picture earned a nomination for the Academy Award in the Best Dance Direction category. The Vincey family is a family of explorers. Leo decides to make the same trip into the Russian Arctic his ancestor made 500 years before him. He's hoping to discover the source of a powerful flame that is said to give eternal life to whom dares to be burnt by it. At the end of his journey, he will meet She Who Must be Obeyed, a strange queen who seems to have known and loved Leo's ancestor."
Daniel Staebler, Resident Scholar
