Review Summary
The children of Han Solo and Princess Leia have escaped from the seemingly invincible Yuuzhan Vong, a race of warriors from outside the known galaxy. But Anakin Solo, the youngest of the family, was killed in the process and Jacen, twin brother to Jaina, was captured and possibly killed.
Now Jaina, hotshot pilot and young Jedi wavering on the edge of the Dark Side, must face a series of impossible challenges: stop the destruction of Hapes, a world full of refugees from the now-destroyed Coruscant; rescue her brother, and fight off political attempts to force her into the throne of the Hapan royalty.
Enlisting the help of several other young Jedi as well as Kyp Durron, a disreputable war criminal, Jaina turns her captured Vong frigate into a weapon of surprise. She learns how to jam the transmissions of the biotechnology used to control Vong warships, and leads the WarMaster to destroy some of his own forces by projecting her ID code onto their ships.
Jaina is obsessed with getting Jacen back alive, even when others believe he is dead.
The Vong religion venerates twins, however, and they are just as anxious to have Jaina returned to their custody for sacrifice.
Jaina's techniques work to save Hapes..for the moment..but she fails to rescue Jacen.
