Review Summary
This is a prequel to The Black Jewels Trilogy. Jared is being sold after killing a Queen, one of the worst offenses a Blood male is capable of. The Gray Lady buys him, as well as a few other slaves. Everyone is suspicious of her, because rumors about her have led them to believe that she will treat them worse than they've ever been treated before. Almost everyone in the group, including Jared and the Gray Lady, has secrets they don't want the others to know. The group does its best to stay ahead of the armed men sent to kill the Gray Lady, and they gradually learn some of each other's secrets. The Gray Lady is not as terrible as she seems, and Jared feels drawn to her without knowing quite why.
