Review Summaries
"Harry's second year at Hogwarts is more, exciting than the first. People are being turned into stone and of Harry is a suspect. There is also a ghost haunting the girls' bathroom that knows more than she is moaning about. Harry also finds out the secret that his friend Hagrid has been hiding. "
Sherrie L. Jones, Resident J. K. Rowling Scholar

"Harry, Hermione and Ron are back for their second year at Hogwarts; but it is far from a happy reunion. Students, not of pure wizard blood, are being attacked and there are rumors that a mysterious portal called the Chamber of Secrets has been opened by the descendent of Salazar Slytherin, a founder of Hogwarts notorious for his turning to the Dark Arts. Harry and his friends decide to investigate the mystery and Hermione is attacked. Once again Harry faces his own mortality to save the world from darkness."
Kelly Steed, Resident J.K. Rowling Scholar

"Harry is in his second year at Hogwart's. Now, he is trying to figure out why students are turning to stone. As the story unfolds...there is a basilisk in the basement of the school that Harry must come face-to-face with."
Rebecca, Resident J. K. Rowling Scholar

" A 12 year old boy tries to save his friends from a huge snake-like monster called a basilisk he has to solve mysteries as to where the monster is. He goes down into the basment of his wizarding school (Hogwarts) and fimds himself face to face with his worst nightmare. He fights the monster to the death and defeats it. He once again becomes a hero. "
Joelle Siegel, Resident J.K. Rowling Scholar

"Harry Potter goes back to the school in the fall and strange things start to happen. His classmates and friends become stones. Again he faces the wizard Voldemort who killed his parents."
irina, Resident J.K. Rowling Scholar

"Harry is back for a second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the opposition is much the same if a little more menacing. The evil Lord Voldemort seems to be able to possess or mind control almost anyone, so if you are a junior mage you just don't know who you can trust - rather like life really. Anyway, Lord V. is back for another go at Harry, so will it be third time lucky? No. I find that there is rather a cold undercurrent in this book. Compared to Tolkien, CS Lewis, ER Eddison, UK LeGuin, is this a classic series? I fear not."
Michael JR Jose, Resident J.K. Rowling Scholar

"Harry Potter is a wizard and attends a school of witchcraft and wizadry. In this book, there are people getting mysteriously injured and Harry wants to find out what is causing it."
Robert Shaw, Resident J.K. Rowling Scholar

"It's Harry Potter's second year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry and the excitement has just begun. All the characters are present from Book I, of course. As soon as the new term begins, strange things keep happening (so what else is new in a Harry Potter book?); Harry hears voices, strange spells are made, and the atmosphere becomes quite tense, as rumors that the Heir of Slytherin has surfaced! All the answers will be found in the Chamber of Secrets and it is up to Harry and his friends, mainly Ron and Hermione, to settle the issue. Rowling continues the masterly suspense she created in Book I. "
Bill Hobbs, Resident J.K. Rowling Scholar

"Rowling commendably managed to maintain the same level of magic and surprise that made her first book such a hit with children and adults. "Chamber of Secrets" is a little darker and a little scarier (giant spiders in the forest remind one of Tolkien but with a different twist, although a ghost in the girls' bathroom is played as farce). New characters turn up in the form of the fatuous new professor Gilderoy Lockhart and the intriguing elf Dobby. The climax is perhaps a little less compelling than that of the first book, but maybe that's because some of the novelty has worn off."
David Loftus, Resident J.K. Rowling Scholar
