Review Summaries
"Drew Parker is a private eye in partnership with a psychic, Jennifer Grey, in 2025 Atlanta. He's also gay. The partners get hired to investigate a potential threat against the stars of a hit TV show, which consist of three out of five identical (cloned) twin actors. Drew also pursues a private matter involving his ex-boyfriend Daniel, who appears to be dating a fellow with no recorded past and is getting Dan hooked on Blitz laced with heroin. In the larger picture, the Baptist News Network has been in crisis ever since the Reverend (and ex-Senator) Stonewall murdered a modern artist on the air and pushed a teen rock star off a building; and agents of the Cherokee Nation (which is suing to get much of its ancestral land in northern Georgia returned) also figure into the complicated plot. (However, there is no gorilla in the story; the title references an "old" hit TV show that Parker loved.) This charmingly offbeat sci-fi detective novel (the second in a series that started with _The Gumshoe, the Witch, and the Virtual Corpse_) is engagingly plotted -- half a dozen of the characters take turns narrating the chapters -- with so-so dialogue . . . but is so badly riddled with typoes in its Meisha Merlin Publishing edition that they become distracting."
