Matthew Bennell (Sutherland), a health inspector in San Francisco, notices lots of people are saying their loved ones are "not who they are." At roughly the same time one of his coworkers, Elizabeth Driscoll (Adams), feels her boyfriend Geoffrey is acting strangely. For a while Matthew doesn't take Elizabeth's fears seriously, and tries to get her to talk to his friend, the psychiatrist and celebrity author Dr. David Kibner (Nimoy). The Bellicecs, Jack (Goldblum) and Nancy (Bellicec), own a health club with mud baths, and are the first to discover a nearly completed pod replacement for Jack. Soon, our heroes aren't sure whom they can trust and which of their friends have already been taken over by the alien replacements from deep space. Before "The Right Stuff" and "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," director Philip Kaufman did this first-rate 1978 remake of the 1956 classic, from a script by W.D. Richter (who himself directed "Buckaroo Banzai" and is responsible for scripts from "Brubaker" to "Big Trouble in Little China"). Richter and Kaufman moved the story from its original small California town to urban San Francisco.

First remake of Invasion of the Bdy Snatchers introduces a whole new set of characters in a new place, San Francisco. After a rainstorm the body snatchers begin to take over, and a group of non-aliens must escape.

A remake of the original classic. Although there's an unecessary naked chick scene, the 70's version is far superior to the original and it definitely does a better job of creeping you out. The story follows a health inspector doing his health inspector things and hanign out with his botanist girlfriend. After a body discovered at a local spa starts looking more and more like the proprieter, things start to pick up. The bodies grow from pods from outerspace that mutate with earth's plant life. Once the bodies are "mature", the real people fall asleep and the pod people take over their lives. The health inspecter and his girlfriend catch on and try to stay awake and avoid capture, but just as in the original, this turns out to be impossible. The health inspector is betrayed by his friends and a shrink (Leonard Nemoy rocks in a 70's do) and eventually by his girlfriend who zonks out in spite of all the pill popping they do to stay awake. The pod people are much more threatening in this version, shrieking erily as they finger non-pod people. The ending, while maybe not necessarily unpredictable, is extremely memorable to say the least.
