Review Summaries
"William de Worde is the son of a noble family in the city of Anhk-Morpork. He breaks away from the prescribed life of luxury, much to his father's disgust, and begins the Discworld's first newspaper. Everything starts well, he quickly gains a staff and delivery service, but trouble is just around the corner. William investigates a strange attempted murder at the Patrician's Palace. The Guild of Engravers set up a rival newspaper, and a pair of dangerous looking men in dark suits are noticed lurking in the shadows."
T. Eggleston, Resident Terry Pratchett Scholar

"The main plot evolves around the main character, a young journalist named William de Worde. When he stumbles across one of the first printing presses to be made in his time, he is convinced by the dwarfs that owns it that he could earn a lot of money by finding news and putting it on paper which he then could sell to everyone. However, this use of a press earns him the anger of the official Engravers Guild. When it is clear the William does not intend to shut down his paper, the Engravers Guild proceed with buying their own presses and publishing their own paper. At the same time, a plot to remove the city's ruler is underfoot, supported by prominant nobles of the city. William learns about this, and throws himself at the task of finding out what really has happened. The truth, it turns out, is not always a welcome one... "
Espen Hegge, Resident Terry Pratchett Scholar

"The main character meets up with dwarves and inadvertantly starts the first newspaper, becomming responsible to the government for the operation and the dwarves. The Patrician is accused of foul deeds and placed into custody while someone is selected to replace him. The main character discovers some indication that the man may be innocent. Along the way he also discovers what running a newspaper means and the difference between TRUTH and what people believe. He discovers soomething shattering and grows a great deal. Tis book has vampires and zombies as well as the usual fantasy cast of characters."
