"Book One of The Mage Storms. Karal is the Sun Priest and secretary to the envoy to Valdemar. When the envoy is killed and Karal is made the envoy, he doesn't know what to do. Then he gets a Firecat and becomes friends with a Companion. Now the Mage Storms start, and it seems that Karal has a secret talent. He can channel magic and will play a more important role in stopping the storms and forming alliances than he first thought.
