Review Summaries
"Actors from an old TV series called "Galaxy Quest" spend their lives attending science fiction conventions. They are getting bored and tired of the whole thing, when suddenly they are confronted by a group of real aliens, bizarre tentacled creatures who have hidden themselves behind virtual human forms. The aliens cannot conceive of lying or fiction, so they have taken the old TV reruns as historical documents, and based all of their technology on what they have seen. The aliens ask the aging actors for their help in rescuing them from an evil galactic tyrant who seeks to destroy and enslave them, and the actors must come to terms with a whole new reality."

"This is a Star Trek parody that works. Not only did it make fun of Star Trek in good taste, it provded an extremely entertaining story with everything you'd want in a Sci-Fi movie. "

"Twenty years ago, "Galaxy Quest" was a cheesey hit sci fi TV series. Now its stars are reduced to doing conventions and commercial ads. Jason Nesmith (Allen), who played Commander Peter Quincy Taggart, is a simple-minded egotist who still gets off on the spectacle, but Alexander Dare (Rickman) is a British Shakespearean actor who loathes the work, the fans, the humiliation. Suddenly, the crew is swept into space by a dying race of aliens who picked up transmissions of their old show and took them for reality; the aliens created a replica of the show's spaceship and hope our actors can save them from the brutal alien warlord Sarris and his reptilian invaders. Alternately stupid (on purpose) and earnest, "Galaxy Quest" is a fairly successful parody of Star Trek and its fans. Its sports occasionally decent F/X and a terrific alien villain. Allen is charmingly egotistical and sincere, Weaver gamely enthusiastic (and shows a generous amount of bra strap and cleavage), and Tony Shalhoub especially notable as an insouciant anti-Scotty. Silly great fun."
