I'm wondering if James Cobb has considered self-publishing on the Kindle? I believe he could set the price (I'd be willing to pay the equivalent of "normal" fees - I'm sure others would as well).
I don't think self-publication would preclude an eventual print run either.
Just a thought. Has this already been discussed?

the fifth book was published in German, I just found it after doing a little digging. its for sale on amazon. to bad i can't read german. this is the blurb after i ran it through a translator:

I enjoyed the Garrett thriller series and am now reading the C.S.Forester Hornblower series. In the third book (Hotspur) on page 180 Forester uses the phrase (Chooser Of The Slain). Is this a coincidence ? You must be a fan of the Hornblower books.

I just finished tonight "The Artic Event". I am living in Montreal Canada and I am working in finance. Not related at all with history,or military studies or work at all. However, I want to let know how much I absolutly enjoy reading your book. Reading it with enthousiasm from beginning to the end (meanwhile taking the bus transport going to work) .
This is for me one of the most passionate triller I have reed so far.
Only just one critic: At the end I would have make Mr Smyslov living here in America and be with Randi ... :)
I am a little sad that you left him with his problem in Russia after all he has done. From the start I felt he was a good and should be more upgraded ,on an other I am really glas that he did not died
Also please know that I really really enjoy your book,the way it is writting and facility to leave and to come back because of the short chapter that brought us to an other caracter/event.
The history and the military part that is a mistery for all of us was very informative.

It has been years since I have been able to read about Amanda Garrett and her adventures. My being a female US Naval Officer, she has always been an inspiration to me... In fact there is something in "Sea Fighter" that I would love to talk to Mr. Cobb about. Does anyone know an e-mail address to where I could reach him?

I totally agree with Joe's comments. The Amanda Garrett books are works of fiction not historically accurate records. All authors try to get as accurate as possible but if they tried to be perfect in all the minute references to hardware etc the books would so thin on detail as to be a terrible read, or even worse never published at all for fear of offending the purists.
Carry on Mr Cobb, I think you are doing a great job with an excellent set of characters.

All of you Arm-Chair experts leave the Author(s) alone. Nobody wants to know how smart you are or what you've experienced. When an author like James Cobb writes he is trying, with dialog and description to weave a story line, I am an "Amanda Garrett" Fan, waiting for the next release, but I am not whining about differences. EG: DDG 79 is the USS Oscar Austin a Flight IIa Burke, not a XXI Destroyer and the fact that Randy Cunningham is an imprisioned felon make it unlikely that the Navy will name a garbage scow after him, inspite of his CMH. When an author changes something for his purposes it is called authors' license . . . Live with it!

James: The Arctic Event Chapter 29, page 263 (paper back) describes a Winchester Model 12 shotgun as a shree-round magazine in error. A 3- round magazine would have a 4 shot capacity. Fact: All Model 12 Winchester shotguns have a 6-round magazine capacity and a chamber round (1) which is a 7 shot capacity.

Dear James,
I am in the process of reading your novel "Arctic Event". It is a terrific read. By way of background, my first service was Coast Guard and for a tour I was stationed in Alaska, first on the Coast Guard Cutter Sedge stationed in Cordova, Alaska. Then I transferred to Coast Guard Radio Station Kodiak. In those days '60s, the Coast Guard Air Station was tenant unit on the Navy base. Reading your book brings back some really good memories. Just a couple of small errors in your research. The Alex Haley was originally the USS Edenton, after it was transferred to the Coast Guard it became the USCGC Alex Haley. However, in your book you keep referring to her as the USS Alex Haley. No big deal but it detracts from your otherwise great book. Also, it is the Commandant of the Coast Guard (only one Commandant)and not the Commandant of the 17th Coast Guard District, it is correctly Commander Coast Guard District 17.
My second service was Army, and as an airborne combat physician assistant I can identify with LTC Smith. Your handling of Army medical special OPS is excellent.
All in all I am enjoying your book. Keep up the good work.

just started your book the arctic event one Big mistake 5th sfga(special forces group airborne) is not and never has been at ft lewis as your story claims they were at ft bragg from activation in the early fifties until the late eighties when they were moved to ft campbell ky ft lewis has always been the home of 1st sfga great book so far hope the error was unintentional

Just finished _Arctic Event_. Enjoyed it, but it's just my nature to find nits. On pp 111-112, Valentina states that the USA has never constructed a graphite-moderated power plant similar to Chernobyl. This a strange statement from a military historian, since such a plant was completed in the early 1960's at Hanford. Thermal power was greater than any of the Chernobyl reactors. Also, there were eight other large graphite-moderated reactors at Hanford for plutonium and tritium production. They have long since been deactivated, but those actions were not prompted by the Chernobyl disaster.
