1. obiwan got so old in 20 years because in episode three he was already 40. So in episode 4, he is 60 and has been living in the desert for 20 years. That will age you quickly
2. remember, in episode 5, yoda told Luke that he wasn't ready. Also, chewie tells han in episode 6 that luke was a jedi jknight, implying that several years of training took place. i beleive that there was a three to four year space between episodes 5 and 6.
3. Yoda had been a master for 900 years. I think that he knows enough that he can just give luke the most important training.

Well, since Luke was strong in the force, and since who wants to watch a movie about some guy who is in an incestual relationship with his sister being trained and living with a puppet in a tiny house with one room.(except me)But since that movie never happened, apparently yes. Yoda did train Luke in a week.

He certainly wasn't a fully trained Jedi, but he was strong in the force so he learned quickly. When he returned, Yoda sensed his adventures on Bespin on Tatooine and decided he had taught all that Luke needed to beat the Emperor. Plus he was dying.

COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU THIS SUMMER: The most incredible, unbelievable, exciting science fiction movie you have ever seen. Twentieth Century Fox is proud beyond words to present the next Star Wars, Raiders of The Lost Ark, Close Encounters of The Third kind, Titanic and Alien: VANCE STARHAWK: SPACE HERO. This film is not yet rated. But there will be a lot of hot space chicks and really cool battle and fight scenes.

(Quote)this is a very strong point. why does luke only need a week of training when it took anakin like friggin almost 20 years(Quote)
I think the main reason why anakin took so long to become a Jedi (Did he? or was he still a Padawan when he transformed into Darth Vader?) was not because he still needed to learn the Jedi powers and tricks. The main problem with him was that he was too Full of himself. As long as he thought that he was the best and he should be master, he was not fit to become a Jedi. Even after decades of training Anakin still thought he was great and better than anyone else. He never really used the Force to help others without any expectations, but he only helped people for his own reasons and for showing others that he was better than they.

Luke got the Cliff's notes version more or less. Desperate times dictate drastic actions. Yoda had 20 years to prepare a condensed curriculum for Luke. And Luke returned to Yoda in the time between ESB and ROTG during the "Shadows of the Empire" multimedia event, which was officially liscensed by Lucas himself as canonical. This period of training took two years, but was also much more intense than a normal Jedi training. Luke was not a conventional Jedi, and his power in the Force probably helped him to learn faster

this is a very strong point. why does luke only need a week of training when it took anakin like friggin almost 20 years. i think someone has to explain all of this. my only explaination would be luke had SOME training from old ben kenobi while on the Falcon. maybe he picked up most of the basics there. i mean obi-wan DID train anakin and luke. i know of no other jedi to take on 2 padawon in a lifetime.

i think yoda was just trying to make luke try harder by saying he was too old or too undisciplined to be trained. my dad still does that to me. take care.

Luke didn't study at all to be a Jedi. He paid a ringer to take the final then got his arse kicked by Vader. Only then did he acknowledge the seriousness of The Force and pull an allnighter.

Yoda trained Luke for a while. He diddent seem to care to train him much becuzz he knew that there be another chosen one or another "new hope". If luke abbonded the light and went to the dark side then yoda would take leia more seriously becuase she would be the new hope.

Just so whoever does read this board can know - you really have to read the books, the comics, and see the movies to get the best picture of the over all story. Sidious was Plagus' apprentice, and some suggest that sidious or plagus actually created anakin - remember that he had no father, and was 'born of the force'... as to luke - possibly because of his powerful heritage - he really was something of a jedi prodigy. His training with yoda was probably about a month at the most, and when he left to fight vader obviously he lost - hence he was not a jedi yet. Anyway, between ESB and ROJ, there were events that qualify basically as on the job training. And because luke was so attuned to the force naturally, his ability to grasp how it is used and what it means grows exponentially. Even in the NJO book series to the most recent novels, he's shown as being more innovative than any of the students that he's brought to the new jedi order. Ahem...

With all due respect to Jaid, maybe Luke wasn't trained in a week, but it obviously wasn't too long, because while Yoda is busy tutoring him, Han and Leia are being pursued by the Imperial Fleet. Surely this chase didn't last for months on end! Luke must've gotten a crash-course in Jedi training in ten days, and having his hand chopped off by Darth Vader classified as "on the job training". He then received his diploma, which he clutched with his robotic hand. Like father, like son!!

Yes, LET'S logically think of things... because this question has always bothered me as well. TESB is structured as two storylines, with two sets of characters, who start out together, diverge, and then meet up again. Luke/R2 leaves Hoth at the same time that Han/Leia/C3PO do onboard the Millenium Falcon (we'll refer to this group as Falcon). We then watch as Falcon breaks through the Imperial blockade, mucks around in the asteroid field, and finally escapes by hiding in the pre-lightspeed ejection of garbage from a Star Destroyer. They then travel to Bespin, where they seem to spend at most a day before they are captured by Vader. Torture commences, which Luke senses through the force, bringing him to their rescue, and they meet up again. In this same amount of time, Luke travels to Dagobah, meets Yoda and receives all of his training. It appears that his training takes place over several weeks if not months (I think months is more likely). The best solution I can come up with is that since the Falcon does not have lightspeed, it has to travel at sublight speed to Bespin. Now, certainly Bespin is not in the same star system as Hoth... and traveling from one star system to another at sublight speed would have to take months or even years (which still assumes that "sublight speed" is awfully close to the speed of light). So I guess that there was a really, really long, boring trip for Han, Leia and company in between escaping from Hoth and reaching Bespin. The question is, how dod Han and Leia manage to avoid hooking up for all that time??

Sidious really WAS an aprentice of the Sith Lord who was able to create life (Darth Plageous) - it is exactly mentioned in M. Stower's book "Revenge of the Sith", based on 3rd episode's scenario.

Hey! Obviously he wasn't trained in a week. But there not going to show every moment of it because it wasn't the most interesting part of the movie. And the eniter movie doesn't happen over a weekend. It ws problay longer then that but there not going to show them sleeping and stuff cause there would be no point. SO person who wrote that Luke was trained in a week, maybe you should logically think of things before you type them.!!!!!
