That might be true, but other authors tend to hide it under wonderful characters and gripping stories. Many reviews from respected magazines and newspapers also say that CP didn't bother to hide many of the similarities and they just stare at you. It also copies many different things from LOTR, like elves, theories, names, etc. The Inheritance Cycle is also very poorly written, the way it starts to jump around a lot shows an author who doesn’t know how to keep a story line interesting without switching to a more interesting character. I don't like the Inheritance Cycle because 1. The abundance of plagiarism, 2. How poorly written it is, 3. People think CP is a protégé (protégé - someone that has mastered an art by 12) and they read his work because it was written by a 15 year old (it wasn't, he was 17 when he was finished and his parents started their own publishing company to get his book out and not send it to large publishing company, through that someone found it and decided to publish it with a big company) and he graduated high school at 15 (he was homeschooled, it is much easier to make your own curriculum and go faster because you can take more advanced courses and you have a lot more flexibility). These are the main reasons I dislike the Inheritance Cycle. If you would like further discussion, I welcome it, please send me an email at - randalthor_3@hotmail.com . Please title the email as something dealing with the Inheritance Cycle.WOT fan

I don't think that it is Star Wars, even if some parts were based on it. I definitely think that CP's books are much more interesting than Star Wars. I still think that there are many authors that take plenty from other books, not just CP.

No, his strory isnt original. It's just StarWars all over again. He even says he takes *SOME* of it from StarWars. Exept his whole plot is StarWars.

Look, even if CP has taken ideas from other books, what fictional author hasn't? He came up with the story and wrote it himself. How many here have actually taken the time to try to publish a book?

sorry, my email is randalthor_3@hotmail.com Please email me there. I think Paolini could have a future in writing if he worked harder and took some writing classes. He has some ideas, but he still needs more originality.

I have read many books that are similar to what CP's are about and they are nothing compare with his. He does have his own flair and originality. He even placed settings that are similar to where he grew up! My opinion is that CP is one of the best authors today

i partially agree with you. i think that many books should never have been published. for instance, sword bird, it was written by a 12 year old, but it shows, she lacks emotion and creativity in her writing and it look immature. cp faces a similar problem with his many purple prose and grammatical errors along with numerous other writing faults that cannot be excused by his age. cp is not the first one, nor will he be the last to “borrow” ideas from someone else. i have a problem with the fact that cp doesn’t even bother trying half the time to try and morph the other ideas into his own, he just puts it there and hopes that nothing bad happens. I agree that many plots start and end the same, but the middle is usually where the author tries to ad his/her own flair. cp’s plot line fits up almost exactly with sw, I wouldn’t mind if there were a few similarities here and there, but throughout the series I can match up nearly every turning point with one in sw. if you would like to further this conversation, please contact me at randalthor3@hotmail.com . thank you for reading this.

Of the defence of CP copying other fantasy authors:
Would you guys stop comparing CP to other authors? Usually, names that are almost identical are ACCIDENTS! Plus, almost every fantasy book has the same plot: A hero gets chosen from no where to defeat an eevil and dark force. Weapons and modes of transportation may very on what era the book is written in, but think about it. Can you name one fantasy book that doesn't have a hero chosen from nowhere to defeat a dark force? Tons of other books have dragons, elves or dwarves. Actually, I would guess abput 90% of all fantasy books have at least one of them. Give up on blaming CP for copying!!!

I agree with LOTRfan. Try comparing The Inheritance Series with Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time, Star Wars etc. I could go on forever. What happens after you do that? How many similar things can you find? After how many of these ideas does it cease to be an original work and become something sloppy, immature, and plagiarized?
Send me and email and we can discuss it more. It’s randalthor3@hotmail.com please, I love any healthy, clean debate.

CP takes so much from lord of the rings, im suprised he hasnt been sued! The elves in their forests, the dwarves in their mountains, an immortal overlord?? come on. And names to. The beor mountains. in LOTR, beorning mountains. OOH big difference. The gray heath, exactly the same. I could just scream. It is so annyoing. its like he took LOTR and added dragons, magic and bad writing.

i agree with lady. i think CP needs more ORIGINAL ideas. his ideas have all ben used before. i don't mind it if an auther uses a few references here and there, it's just that he uses so many ideas from other authers. i also think his writing is inconsistent, he will be describing a table in great detail and then he dosen't elaborate nearly as much when describing for instance the green sword. i say that if you're going to make up a whole new world along with its own creatures, it should be more unique. It's not only his creatures though, it's the plot too, I've seen it before in another series. I will admit that his most recent book, Brisinger was much better than the others, but still not very good in my opinion.

Why is everyone so critical to this extremely talented author?! How about you try to write something so amazing at such a young age! He is insperational and when I let my eyes wander the pages he wrote for the world, I am no longer in this horribly modern world where our own inventions are slowly killing us and allowing us to become more corrupt each second. In a way, everyone on this planet has become like Galbatorix. Humans care only for themsleves. So lay off. Once one person thinks of an idea, that doesnt no one else is allowed to use it! And you know, i dont care where he got his deas because these books make me feel safe and they take me to a place where i dont have to face reality. No mater how short of a time it is. I love it. I know that I am not the only one who feels this way.

So, not to stomp on everybody's parade or anything, but let's take a step back and consider Paolini from a literary standpoint. Not a whole lot there. Paolini is a master at two things-- long-windedness and combining everybody ELSE's ideas and making money by calling them his OWN. crazy.

I've read many SciFiFantasy series through my years. I find that they all take me away from my life on great trips. Some better written than others, but none the less, better than I could have written. Anyone out there know or suspect when CPs final book is to be released? Thanks

i might be 13 but i've read quiet a few fantasy novels. I think that CP's books need to find a solid begining and an original plot. Helen, how can you say you're a fantasy reader when you can't see the obvious plot takes from Lord of the Rings, The Wheel of Time and various other series/books published in this genre? I'm sure I haven't read nearly as many books as some of you who post here, but how come none of you can see the obvious plots from other series? Personaly I thought Brisinger helped CP because it wasn't all other people's ideas though it was litered with numerous inconsistancys. I remember one paragraph where he grately elaborates a simple desk and the things upon it, he then goes on and describes the green sword with carelesness and little imagination. I also belive that CP was not given his book deal because of his writing abilaties, but because his parents were able to pull a lot of strings. Can you see where I'm coming from now?

hey! come on about the story dragging along, it revealed Brom being his father, and his new sword. It revealed of lot of new stuff. But hey if you don't like it hey its a free country and you can complain. But hey if you don't like it don't read it instead of complaining about it.

I read the first two books. Eragon was gripping and I couldn't wait for the second. That was good too. The wait was on for the final in the (supposed) trilogy.
However with the release of Brsingr, and having spent the money, time and energy, my overall impression was that it was a long-winded stall. The plot didn't quicken, it dragged.
I moved from loving Mr. Paolini to desperately hoping that the mind that blow mine with the first book, kept me panting for the second and third, comes up with something amazing for the forth.
I really don't see it and perhaps I can't and shouldn't, that is the beautiful thing about good writers.
At this point I don't know when the final one will be out, I hope soon and I sincerely hope to be blown away.
