An everyman character named Nada, drifts into Los Angeles, looking for work. Instead, he stumbles upon a vast conspiracy initiated by an invading alien race, bent on oppressing Earth with conformist policies. After Nada discovers the clandestine operation, he tries to gain the help of a fellow drifter who's african-american. The problem is, the only way to discover the truth is by putting on specially designed sunglasses that reveal the alien's true appearance. In the midst of the chaos, Nada meets up with a less than trustworthy woman who may lead him to a solution to the problem or just may expose him and his rebel friends to the aliens.

Homeless drifter roddy Piper has been wandering since he was a kid, but when he wanders into an ordinary town he descovers something beyond extraordinary, it's extra terrestrial! It seems that aliens have landed on earth some time ago and have been using mind control to prevent us from seeing them. To the rest of the world the aliens appear to be humans, but with the help of some special glasses Piper and his co-worker see them in their true form, and wage a two man war on the alien empire to reclaim earth.

Adapted from a Ray Nelson novelette, THEY LIVE is a movie produced by Larry Franco and directed by John Carpenter in 1988.
Los Angeles in the 90's. Nada, looking for a job, arrives by train in L.A. coming from Denver, Colorado. He soon makes the acquaintance of Frank who also left Detroit and his family in order to find a job in California as the steal industry is dying in the East. They live under tents in the streets in the company of the people rejected by the system. The television and advertisements have invaded a Los Angeles controlled by the armed forces of the local police. But a group of scientists has discovered that an alien race has slowly invaded the Earth and corrupted the political and economical powers. These aliens have hypnotized the humanity by the means of television waves and therefore stay invisible to everybody. Nada witnesses a police attack on the headquarters of the rebels and saves the special glasses that give the ability to recognize the aliens and break the collective hypnosis. With Frank, he joins the few people aware of the alien invasion and decides to destroy the building of channel 54 where the hypnotical waves come from. But he will have to cope with the entire alien forces and also with the humans who have betrayed their country for money or political power.
A little not so well-known sci-fi pearl from John Carpenter.
