Review Summaries
"Technically, this is one, long, novel, but really, it's a collection of interlinked short stories, about the life of the oldest living human, Lazarus Long. At the beginning he's old, and dying, and has lost interest in living because he's lived so long and has done everything. So his buddies try to figure out a reason for him to live. It sounds grim, but actually its interesting, even lighthearted, on a number of levels. For one thing, the search to find something new for him to do is interesting. For another, the story is interspaced with short stories about Lararus's past, such as the time he pioneered a completely unexplored part of a planet, or the time he adopted and freed former slaves and taught them to become entrepreneurs. And then the story really gets interesting when Lazarus goes back in time to visit his family he grew up with. It's interesting reliving the era of the early 1900's in the midwest, and seeing what life was like then. On the kinky side, however, Lazarus sets up a polygamous family where he has sex with everything that moves, including his twin daughters. When he goes back in time he also "does" his Mom. But even if you're not into that sort of thing the book is still a good solid read because of the adventures Lazarus has and the stories he has to tell. "
