The movie was about a teenage girl(Jennifer Conelly)who got forced into another dimension by reciting a line from her favorite poem to make her baby brother go away. To her suprise he did and now she has no choice but to navigate her way through a giant stone labyrinth filled with mysterious trap doors and talking rocks to face the goblin king, Jareth,(David Bowie) who kidnapped her brother. She has to retrieve him before midnight or her brother will become the son of Jareth.

Sarah (Connelly) is a typical troubled teenager - troubled but with good intentions - who spends her time daydreaming and fantasizing about escaping reality. In a fit of drama, she frustratedly wishes her baby half-brother Toby away to the Goblin King Jareth(Bowie). Upon realizing the reality of her situation, she bargains with Jareth, who is apparently smitten with her, for the return of Toby if she can find her way through the labyrinth to his castle within thirteen hours. Along the way, Sarah encounters a host of fantastic creatures and characters who help her learn that life isn't always fair and that she should never take anything for granted.

When she wishes for the goblins to take her baby step brother away. What Sarah states at the beginning of the film and realises at the end is that all the things that had occurred had happened to bide Jareth's time. Jareth (played by David Bowie) kidnapped Toby so that he could use the thirteen hours to convince Sarah that she loved him.

One regrettable night, Sarah is stuck at home babysitting her aggravating little brother, Toby (Toby Froud), and makes a wish that he be taken away by the Goblin King. Jareth the Goblin King (David Bowie) promptly arrives and whisks Toby off to his castle at the center of a labyrinth. Sarah must find her way through the labyrinth within thirteen hours to find her baby brother and bring him back home safely. Along the way, she meets a bunch of bizarre muppet creatures who teach her morals and values better than her father and stepmother seem to do.

"I wish the goblins would come and take you away right now", are the fateful words that Sarah, a young girl on the edge of maturity, utters on a dark and stormy night. Never in wildest dreams did she imagine they would actually come and take her baby brother away. And they do. They wisk him off to the land of the Underground, a large Labyrinth in which the Goblin King, Jareth, rules over all. Now Sarah has, "13 hours in which to solve the labyrinth, or your baby brother will become one of us, forever, such a pity..." So Sarah sets off through the labyrinth in order to save Toby before he's turned into a goblin. On her journey she meets a cowardly dwarf, Hoggle, a loveable beast, Ludo, and a noble fox, Sir Didymus, and his loyal steed, Ambrosious.

A teenager named Sara feels angry towards her dad and stepmom, who ask her to babysit for her brother, Toby. She is angry and wishes that the goblins would come and take him away, and Jareth, the Goblin King, appears and steals her brother. Sara is given several hours to make it through a complicated labyrinth with many dangers by herself in order to rescue her brother from the Goblin City. She learns that things are not always what they seem, and not always fair.

The main character, Sarah, must, after accidentally getting her baby brother Toby kidnapped by the Goblin King, rescue him from the goblin king, Jareth, within 13 hours. If she fails to do so, Toby must stay in Jareth's land forever. Along the way she befriends several of Jareth's subjects, including a big orange yeti, a cowardly dwarf, and an excessivly noble squirrle-like knight. The songs (by David Bowie) and costumes are incredible, and the puppets are more lifelike than the majority of CGI characters. Sarah, however, is a bit of a ditz and difficult to sympathize with.

One night babysitting once again for her step brother Toby she wishes him away, by accidently saying the right words. He is taken by The Goblin King into this complex Labyrinth. There she travels through it trying to save him, but in reality she is saving herself, she is letting go of the past, and facing a struggle with growing up.
