Review Summary
Eugenides is a master thief, but a trap is closing in on him. He doesn't manage to escape and the Queen of Attolia captures him. Eugenides is the cousin of the Queen of Eddis, and he ususally steal information for her. Attolia decides that she will enforce the traditional punishment for thieves and cuts off one of Eugenides hands because she wants to send a message to the Queen of Eddis.    Eugenides is barely alive when he gets home. Slowly the doctor manages to heal him, but Eugenides is very depressed, and he becomes reclusive. He begins to practice using his left hand, but he becomes dependent on lithium to sleep at night. Even his family doesn't know how to treat him anymore. Then he learns that Eddis will be at war with Attolia, and the neighboring country of Sounis. If Sounis and Attolia unite, Eddis will be overrun very quickly. Eugenides realizes that if he does not help, his queen, and his country will be lost. So he puts a plan into action. He and a small band of men steal the Ambassador of Sounis and destroy almost the entire Sounis navy. He plants evidence to make it look like Attolia was responsible, so that they will not join forces against Eddis. The next part of Eugenides' plan will take him back in the realm of Attolia, and he will end up coming face to face with the queen of Attolia again.
