Review Summary
Alanna of Trebond and Olau is a young woman in the country of Tortall who has dreams to become a knight. In doing so, she disguises herself as a boy for eight years of her life. After her identity is revealed to the kingdom by her archnemsis, Roger of Conte, she goes out of the capital and begins searchng for adventures. Alanna then meets a sorcerer who gives her a map that set a "path to her destiny". The map contained information to the Roof of the World in order to get the Dominion Jewel that, in the right hands, can bring prosperity to the land, or can bring total destruction to evil hands. Alanna then decides to get the Dominion Jewel for the glory of her kingdom of Tortall. She has many stops on the way, including meeting a beautiful exiled princess, a Shang warrior, and an elemental. In the end of the book, Alanna marries her long time friend George, the King of Theives who competed for Alanna with Prince Jonathan. She slays Roger, brings peace to her kingdom, and ends up having a happy ending.

In the fourth book of the Song of the Lioness Quartet, Alanna of Trebond goes on a quest to find the Dominion Jewel. With the jewel, Jonathan, now the soon-to-be king of Tortall, can hopefully show his people that his reign is not cursed. Unfortunately, there are those plotting to overthrow the king, and Alanna and her friends must find them before they can succeed.
