Review Summary
Alvin Maker has completed his indentures and returned to his hometown to attempt to teach others and help them develop power lke his own. Unfortunately, a young girl starts having sexual fantasies about alvin, which she pretends are true, and some people believe. Alvin has to leave town and return to Hatrack River, the town where he spent his indentures: but even more trouble awaits him in Hatrack. A pro-slavery lobby group has decided to make an example out of Alvin for killing the Bounty-hunters who tried to kidnap Alvin's young black friend, Arthur. And Alvin's dishonest former master Makepeace Smith has a score to settle. Meanwhile, Alvin's younger brother Calvin, who is gifted like Alvin, makes the decision to use his powers for evil instead of good. Alvin struggles to clear his name and protect his friends, even when it's hard to tell who his friends really are.
