Cadderly unknowningly opened a bottle containing the chaos curse (a mist that makes every one do what their heart desires most, good or bad) and that mist killed most of the people that Cadderly didn't really care for except for his druidic friend Newander who was slain by the enemy. Cadderly had been the one who killed that man. His blood was in his hands! Cadderly couldn't get the grief out of him."
