"Timequake is a mixture of autobiography and an account of what happens to the world when a timequake strikes in 2001. The universe shrinks back to 1991 and everyone is forced to relive a decade with no free will. Vonnegut now in his 70s relates stories about his family and friends and has a wise old sage's view of life and the world. Humour in the book springs from what happens when free will is suddenly restored as the timequake comes to an end. In the words of Kilgore Trout (Vonnegut's sci-fi writing alter-ego) “You were sick, but now you're well again, and there's work to do.”
