Review Summaries
"The book tells us of society destoyed. Green comets fly over earth, blinding eveyone who sees them. The hero, Bill, was in hospital at this time with his eyes bandaged, after he was attacked by a new breed of genetically modified, carniverous, seemingly intelligent plants called "Triffids".He discovers that almost everyone else is blind, and society quickly becomes a game of 'survival of the fittest'. Bill rescues another seeing woman called Josella. The couple fall in love, as they try to continue their lives in a world dominated by the triffids"
Victoria Conyers, Resident John Wyndham Scholar

"Nobody knows where the triffids came from but they were found to be high in oil so were grown and farmed. One day however a meteor shower leaves the entire population of earth, except for a few isolated cases, completely blind. Now it is time for the triffids to take over. William Mansen had his eys bandaged after surgury so missed the blinding meteor shower. He roams the city helping out the blind until he meets Josella, a woman who also has kept her sight. Together they escape and venture out till they reach Shirning farm and set up a life for themselves there. "
Neil Morey, Resident John Wyndham Scholar

"The Earth passes through a cloud of 'comet debris' which blinds all but a handful of the population. The few who survive unscathed must struggle with their new situation, each other, and above all the triffids - mobile, lethal, genetically engineered plants. "
Andy Wixon, Resident John Wyndham Scholar

"Long before GM (genetically modified) crops hit the news, 'Triffids' were 'born'. Plants with the power to kill, Plants with the power to walk. When almost all of mankind are struck blind by a meteorite shower, the Triffids break bondage and take over. Classic sci-fi and perhaps must more relevant today than ever."
Christopher Moore, Resident John Wyndham Scholar
