Review Summary
In a brief 1958 prologue, four hot-shot test pilots vie to be first into space ... but they are dumped from the program by a jerk manager who chooses to send a chimp into space instead. By the present, they are all living separate, fairly quiet lives: Corvin (Eastwood) a retired electrical engineer living near the desert, Hawkins (Jones) a daredevil crop duster, O'Neill (Sutherland) a womanizing designer of roller coasters, and the navigator Sullivan (Garner) a minister. Their despicable former boss (James Cromwell) is now a mission leader at NASA, and calls in Corvin for consultation because a Russian "communications" satellite appears to have failed and will soon crash into the atmosphere and the Earth with supposedly dire results. For some reason, it has a guidance system designed by Corvin aboard, so he forces NASA to send him and his old crew up to save the day (along with two young astronauts to keep an eye on them). Given an outrageous premise and a number of plot holes you could drive a truck through, "Space Cowboys" remains an amiably amusing movie, with a bunch of senior film vets clowning around and a supporting cast that includes Marcia Gay Harden, William Devane, Courtney B. Vance, Blair Brown, and Jay Leno playing himself.

SPACE COWBOYS is a movie directed by Clint Eastwood in 2000.

Clint is asked by the NASA to solve the problem of a deficient russian satellite falling down into the earthly atmosphere. He's finally sent, with three of his former army pals, into space in a space shuttle.

There is a lot of comedy in this movie which is not the best Eastwood film but SPACE COWBOYS allows us to admire excellent performances of veteran actors.
