" Ace, Mar 2001, 6.99, 400 pp. ISBN: 0441008119 After the debacle at the Palasion System station, Commonwealth of Empires Intel Agent Morgan Roche follows her former boss Jelina Heidid into the Sol System. Morgan knows she must stop Jelina and the other clone warriors from destroying mankind. However, something is happening in the Sol System. It seems as if vessels have followed Morgan's ship into the system. Morgan does not know who the real enemy is. For instance on her ship is Cane, a clone warrior, who insists he is human. However, one thing is certain, everyone in the vicinity of the Sol System wants a piece of Morgan. With only the mysterious “Box” that is now melded inside her mind from the events at Palasion, her esper Maii, and hopefully a loyal crew including Cane, Morgan prays that her destiny is to defeat an unknown powerful enemy. A DARK IMBALANCE is the final novel in the EVERGENCE trilogy (see THE PRODIGAL sun and THE DYING LIGHT). As with the previous two tales, this science fiction with some fantasy elements is a thought provoking exciting tale due to the strong characterizations especially in this case of Morgan. The story line is fast-paced, as it seems as if events force Morgan to jump from one fire to another. Though it helps to have read the earlier two novels as references frequently return to them, fans of Star Trek will enjoy this book and the entire series. Harriet Klausner "
