Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes takes place around 20 years after the previous film (Escape From The Planet Of The Apes) had ended. The son of Cornelius and Zira is alive, taken care of by a kindly circus owner (Montalban). But when he is killed, Ceaser (McDowall) wages an all out war to free his ape race from control over the humans who have enslaved them. This is the darkest chapter of the apes saga, with a high degree of violence. This film is the most highly underappreciated film of the series. McDowall's portrayal of Ceaser is top notch! Followed by Battle For The Planet Of The Apes.
