Review Summary
A group of goverment workers in Antarctica discover a Norweigan helicopter chasing after a dog. After the Norweigans were killed, the workers decide to contact the base nearby. They visit the base and discover it to be destroyed along with a frozen alien. They also discover 3 things: 1) the dog was in fact an alien, 2) the alien can copy our DNA and look and act like us,even touching it could a person into this creature, 3) the computer estimated that it would only take a few days for the creature to take over the world.

Antarctica, Earth:
The first week of winter isn't going so well for the boys at US National Science Institute Station 4, down by Outpost 31. Already they've seen crazed suicidal Norwegians shooting at dogs, and one of their men has been accidentally shot. And, though they don't know it yet, they've been infiltrated by a nefarious, malevolent and very very deadly life form thousands of years old. A life form that's been to a thousand planets and can change into any one of them at any time. It's time the boys down in Outpost 31 wake up to their situation, before it's too late. Based on the book "Who Goes There."

Max Landis, Resident Scholar

An alien, buried in the ice for countless centuries, is dug up by a group of Norwegian scientists. This movie starts with a helicopter piloted by two chasing of a Husky dog to a scientific U.S. camp. The plot progresses and they find out that the other Norwegians were killed by something they found in a block of ice, a being. As the movie progresses, we all find out that we are dealing with an intelligent alien that invades and takes the shape of other animals and men. Mistrust is the number one feeling generated here, besides extreme fear and horror. The principal scientist of the group realizes that this 'thing' could propagate/infect all of the rest of the world if it's allowed to survive. After the killing and dying of most of the members in this group, the 'thing' turns into a shapeless hideous monster and is destroyed by Russell with a dynamite stick that sets off a larger explosion. The end finds him and another wondering who survived and what they were going to do. The narrator comments as to what has happened. As the camera pulls away, you see the columns of smoke and a dog running, just like in the beginning of the movie.

George Patton, Resident Scholar

This movie is about an alien life form that infects and assimilates other creatures on earth, and the group of men that discovered it are trying to stop it before it gets to the rest of the planet, but they can't figure out who among them is human and who is alien.
Julia Santora, Resident Scholar

Kurt Russell and others are stranded in complex in Antartica
with an alien life form that can control humans without anyone knowing who is infected with "the thing". One after another, they are infected, and both the audience and the characters have to worry about who to trust. Director John Carpenter keeps this science-fiction/horror masterpeice a guessing game even after its 1982 release.

Mike T. W., Resident Scholar

Scientists in Antarctica uncover an alien who can change shapes and is virtually indestructable. Kirk Russell and his companions must find out who is who before they all die
A. Pearson, Resident Scholar

John Carpenter's remake of the 1951 Howard Hawks film moves the action from North to South Pole, and creates a wonderfully cheesy gore-fest in which the alien progressively takes over the bodies of dogs and humans at a scientific research station. Terrific, brooding musical score, vivid snow and mountain shots (filmed in British Columbia), and a strong, manly performance by Kurt Russell. Scary fun.
David Loftus, Resident Scholar
