| Review Summary |
Combining a "drive out the peaceful, primitive Native Americans" motif with a fountain of youth story, this film has the Next Generation crew rebeling against the Federation in order to honor the Prime Directive. Higher-ups in the Federation have conspired with an alien race known as the Son'a to roust the peaceful and anti-technological Ba'ku from their planet (whose environment turns out to prolong life considerably). Picard and the crew disobey Federation orders and choose to defend the Ba'ku against the disturbance. The story includes escape into and battle in the mountains, further entertaining scenes with Data (including Picard coaxing him into singing "A British Tar" from Gilbert & Sullivan's "HMS Pinafore"), and a love interest for Picard among the Ba'ku named Anij (beguilingly played by Murphy). This ninth Trek movie lacks the sense of real threat of "First Contact" (F. Murray Abraham makes only a so-so villain), but is one of the better of the "bad" odd-numbered features.

Captain Picard and the Enterprise crew fight to save a race of people whose environment is going to be destroyed to benefit an evil race of plastic-wrap faced aliens.
