Review Summaries
"Flyte, the second Septimus Heap novel, begins a year after the conclusion of the first book, Magyk. Septimus, the young new apprentice to Marcia Overstrand, the Extra Ordinary Wizard, is getting used to his duties as apprentice such as retrieving needed equipment for Marcia's ShadowSafe. This is needed rid her of a nasty shadow constantly mimicking her every mood and growing bigger and more noticeable as the days move on. One day, Septimus receives a break from his apprentice obligations, his eldest brother Simon kidnaps Jenna, his adopted sister, who also is the next Queen, and whisks her away to the Bad Lands. Simon had found Dom Daniel's skeleton and became his apprentice. Simon, jealous that Septimus was chosen to be the Extra Ordinary Wizard's apprentice, has united with the supposedly dead Dom Daniel, the ex-Extra Ordinary Wizard who practiced Dark Magyk and ruled over the land with an iron fist. When Septimus tries to convince people that Jenna has been kidnapped by her own brother, no one believes him except one of his older brothers Nicko, who loves working with ships. Together they set out to save Jenna and on the way face the fire breathing dragons, revived tennis balls, daunting witches, bloodthirsty werewolves, and forgotten friendships that await them. Moreover, through it all Septimus unearths the ancient charm of Flyte. "
