Review Summaries
"This is the last installment in Laura Lond's "The Adventures of Jecosan Tarres" trilogy. Jeco, the blacksmith's apprentice who in the first two books had made it to serve as a scribe at the palace of King Alvard III, is falsely accused of treason by the evil Baron Kagarlak and thrown in jail by the king. Rescued by Telm the elgur, Jeco flees for his life together with his two friends, Dalian the blacksmith and Lord Farizel. The king, convinced that both Jeco and Lord Farizel had betrayed him, sends pursuit. Little does he know that he himself is the next target of the evil baron. Baron Kagarlak half-blackmails, half-convinces one of the king's generals, Traun, to overthrow King Alvard. The original plan is to force Alvard to abdicate, or to announce him insane and later kill him. However, General Traun makes the mistake of letting the king go: he tells his men to take the overthrown monarch far into the woods and live him there, certain that it would mean certain death for him. Jeco, Lord Farizel, and Dalian continue their run for safety to the neighboring country ot Tirgan when Telm the elgur tells him about what happened to the king. Telm is allowed to interfere and save the king's life - if Jeco and the rest of the group choose to release him. Still loyal to the king, they do. Giving up Telm's protection costs them a lot, but the king's life is saved, and his heart is changed. No longer wishing to wage the war against Tirgan, Alvard seeks to stop the many disasters he was the cause of."
